Tullamore Harriers Report 9th April 2018
All Ireland Indoor Juvenile Athletics Championships
Tullamore Harriers had a good representation at the All Ireland Indoor Juvenile Athletics Championships in Athlone IT on Saturday April 07th. A total of 16 athletes participated in track and field events.
Diarmaid Finneran got off to a good start in the Boys U16 Long Jump with a jump of 5.31 metres setting a new pb. The jump was good enough to get him into the top eight. Diarmaid finished 5th overall not far off a bronze medal. In the Boys U15 Long Jump, Luke Bourke jumped well with a distance of 4.97 metres to qualify and finish in the top eight. In the Girls U16 Long Jump, Katelyn Farrelly jumped a distance of 4.71 metres against tough opposition to finish 9th overall. Well done to all.
Tullamore Harriers had 3 teams participating in the relays:
U13 boys (4*100m): Samuel Brickland, Samuel Merrick, Eoin Corcoran, Cillian Bourke, Diarmaid Cadam and James Saunders.
U15 boys (4*200m): Luke Bourke, Evan Farrelly, Evan Cunningham, Jack Saunders.
U16 girls (4*200m): Katie Bourke, Ava O Connor, Kate Cunningham, Katelyn Farrelly and Deborah Ilori.
In the Boys U13 4*100 metres, the team ran a good race against very tough and fast opposition finishing 4th in their heat.
In the Boys U15 4*200 metres, all team members ran a great heat to finish second and qualify for the finals. In the finals the team ran a time of 1 min 48 seconds to finish fifth overall. Well done lads.
In the girls u16 4*200 metres, all team members ran an excellent heat to finish second and get through to the finals. In the final the team ran a time of 1 min 49 seconds to finish fifth overall. The time ran by the girls was good enough to set a new club record. Well done girls.
Congratulations to all the young athletes on reaching and participating in the All Ireland indoor athletics events. Well done.
Raleigh Relays in North Carolina
Tullamore Harriers Niamh O’Connor was back in action last weekend. After a bit of a break, Niamh bounced back with a 4.41:05 for 1500m at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina! Niamh is looking forward to the rest of her outdoor season as she comes to the end of her third year in the USA.
Offaly Road Race 5k Series Race 3 Edenderry AC
On what hopefully was one many of more beautiful spring mornings to come, 46 members of Tullamore Harriers headed to Edenderry for Edenderry AC 5k road race (in conjunction with the 3rd round of the Offaly Road Series) held on Sunday April 08th and a great morning was had by all with some great running on a testing course. In the men’s race, Paul Mitchell had a great run coming home in first place. Pauline Curley was our first Lady home, 2nd Lady overall, and Nadine Donegan was 3rd Lady overall. Matthew Molloy was first Junior Male home. Well done to all. A big thanks to Edenderry AC on a great race and super food after.

We had three members running marathons abroad on Sunday April 08th, two in Rotterdam and one in Manchester and all three performed magnificently. Aisling Troy and Liz Ryan were in Rotterdam. Aisling ran the distance before and came home in a brilliant time of 4:34.51 with Liz running her first ever marathon in a super debut of 4:57.02. Basil Cronin was our man in Manchester where he ran 3:17.41. Rodge Larkin also completed a marathon at the weekend, on Saturday April 07th, closer to home in the grounds of Limerick UL, where he completed the distance in 4:24. Well done to all, great achievements.
Gneeveguilla AC 4 Mile Raod Race
Well done to Jim Langan who travelled to Kerry on Easter Monday, April 02nd for Gneeveguilla AC’s Jack O Keeffe 4 mile road race, finishining 1st O/75 in a time of 33.57.
BHAA 10k, Raheny
Well done too to John Todd who was 60th overall and 1st O/65 in a time of 44.30 in the BHAA 10k road race held in St. Anne’s Park, Raheny on Saturday April 07th.

The club offers its condolences to the family of Carthage Grennan, father of former members Mark and Paula, who passed away recently. May he rest in peace.

Access to Harriers Facilities
Please note that use of the club’s facilities, including the tarmac track, is restricted to members of the club. Walkers are not permitted on the track during training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.30pm-8pm.
