Tullamore Harriers Report 29th January 2018
All Ireland Junior & U23 Indoors
SIX NATIONAL MEDALS FOR HARRIERS ATHLETES AT NATIONAL JUNIORS AND UNDER 23s
Tullamore Harriers had a great day at All Ireland Juniors and U23s. With a dozen athletes competing there were six medals won and a number of personal best performances.
In the Junior 800m Mark Milner and Aaron Mangan got gold and silver respectively in Junior 800m running 1.55 and 1.56 respectively. Mark took the lead in the final with 500m to go and proceeded to increase the pace steadily. The last 2 laps were run in 55 seconds and mark crossed the line looking comfortable. Aaron bided his time in fourth until a lap to go and then started to move. In the last 150m he attacked again and down the finishing straight got into second position. His time of 1.56:8 a new PB. It was great to see James Dunne in the heats of this event and hopefully the experience he got in it will help him in the two years he is eligible to compete in this age grade. Ethan Dunican also ran well in the U23 800m and ran a new PB of 2.06:19.
In the 1500m Nadine Donegan got the bronze medal in the Under 23 age category with a gutsy performance. Her time of 4.46:7 a new PB too. Her sister Danielle also ran the Junior 1500m and fought all the way to the line for sixth place. Aaron Mangan also ran in the Junior 1500m and got a silver medal. His two national junior medals marking him out as a big improver in 2018. Philip King also ran in this race and his 4.37 a new PB by four seconds. Considering he has three years left as a junior this is a great start.
Also Jordan Hoang won the Under 23 Triple Jump at his ease. This means that he has won national titles in all age grades he’s competed in. Jana Joha won the junior triple jump with a jump of 11.08m showing that she has a great future in the sport.
South Leinster Schools Cross Country
Danielle Donegan had a great win in the Senior Girls race at the South Leinster Schools Cross Country where she represented the Sacred Heart School, Tullamore. Sarah Condron and Dearbhail Cuddy were 5th and 6th respectively. Well done girls!
