Tullamore Harriers Report 19th March 2018

Proud Display by Tullamore athletes at All Ireland Indoor athletics championships

Well done to all the juveniles who competed in the Irish Life National Juvenile Indoor Athletics Championships in Athlone IT on Sunday March 18th. 11 athletes represented Tullamore Harriers and performed very well.

In the Boys U14 60 metres, Evan Farrelly ran a good heat finishing first and qualified for the final. In the final Evan raced out of the blocks and put in a great run to finish second in a time of 7.84 seconds, setting a new pb and claiming a silver medal. In the Boys U16 60 metres, Daniel Dowling ran a very good heat to make it into the final. Daniel got off to a good start and sprinted his way across the line to finish third and claim a bronze medal in a time of 7.48 seconds, a new pb. In the Boys U15 60 metres, Luke Bourke ran a time of 7.93 seconds also setting a new pb. Aaron Keane ran a good heat finishing second in a time of 7.16 seconds in the Boys U18 60 metres, setting a new pb to make it to the final. Aaron ran the same time in the final to take 6th place. In the Girls U16 60 metres, Katelyn Farrelly ran a good race in a time of 8.11 seconds, just missing out on the final finishing 9th overall.

Ava O’Connor had a great run in the Girls U16 1500m. The race was led out from the gun by Amy Hayde from Tipperary. She brought the pack through the first 200m lap in 31 seconds and after that most were in oxygen debt. Still Ava fought on and although challenged at one point by Cara Laverty from Derry she won a brilliant silver medal. Also running in the 1500m races were James Dunne and Dearbhail Cuddy. Both made great efforts on the day and after long hard few months with school’s cross country and club Indoors they have definitely moved on considerably. James Dunne also has made a leap from Leinster medalist to being a contender on the national stage. He made the final in the 400m on Sunday and although he finished fifth he does seem more confident in these races each day he competes.

Some great performances were displayed by the Tullamore Harriers athletes at All Ireland indoor championships, setting several new pbs and claiming silverware. Congratulations and well done to all.
