Tullamore Harriers Report 26th February 2018
Fine display by Tullamore Harriers juvenile athletes at the Leinster indoor relays championships.
On a very cold and frosty morning over 30 athletes gathered at the Tullamore Harriers club to bus their way to Abbottstown indoor athletic stadium which was hosting the Leinster indoor relay championships on Sunday February 25th. Some sleepy eyed athletes boarded the bus but all were wide awake and rearing to go on reaching Abbottstown. Six teams were entered on the day.
Girls U 12: Mia Merrick, Florrie Briackland, Ava Grennan, Grace McNally and Teagan Delaney.
Girls U 13: Ella McNally, Julia Slattery, Jane Maher, Cara Goode, Niamh Galvin, Amy McGreal.
Boys U 13: Samuel Brickland, Samuel Merrick, Diarmaid Cadden, Cillian Bourk, James Saunders and Eoin Corcoran.
Girls U 15: Maeve McGreal, Belle Hannon, Nera Grgurev and Shauna Slattery.
Boys U 15: Evan Cunningham, Luke Bourke, Evan Farrelly and Jack Saunders.
Girls U 16: Deborah Ilori, Kate Cunningham, Katelyn Farrelly, Shauna Slattery and Katie Bourke.
The day started off with the Girls U13 4 x 100m. The girls ran a great heat with a time of 58.84 seconds to be in the top six and qualify for the final. The girls ran a great final but were outside the medals.
Next was the Boys U13 4 x 100m. All four athletes ran very well to finish in the top six and qualify for the final. In the final the young athletes put in a great performance to finish third and claim a bronze medal. Great run lads.
Next was the Girls U15 4 x 200m. All four athletes ran a good leg and came in with a time of 1 min. 50 seconds but just missed out on the final.
In the boys U15 4 x200m, all four athletes ran a great race and won their heat by a considerable distance in a time of 1 min. 50.13 seconds and progressed straight into the final. After a short break they were back on the track again. The boys improved in their time in the final with all four athletes running a superb leg and winning comfortably to claim gold medal position. Well done lads.
In the afternoon session the U12 girls took to the track for the 4 x 100m. The team put in a great performance winning their heat. Later the news was given by an official that that the team were disqualified. Very unfortunate for the team after such a good show.
In the Girls U16 4 x 200m, all four athletes ran a great leg, winning their heat and qualifying for the final. In the final again all four athletes put in an excellent performance. Leading the race in the first, second and third leg the girls lost time and ground due to lane error by an official at the last changeover. The girls battled on to claim a silver medal. Well done girls.
It was a great performance on the day by all the teams and athletes. Thanks to all the parents who attended and supported the athletes and coaches. Well done all.
