Tullamore Harriers Club Report 24th May 2021
Back on Track
A small group of Tullamore Harriers middle distance runners travelled up to Belfast to the Mary Peters Track on Saturday for a track and field meet organized by Lisburn AC. Conditions were good on the day with the sun shining and the sheltered track protecting the runners from the wind.
First up for Tullamore was the Women’s 1500m. The race went off at a hard pace with Ava O’Connor and Nadine Donegan in the leading pack right from the start. On the final lap both young women were racing hard and in a close run finish Ava O’Connor crossed the line in third in a time of 4.31.05 and Nadine Donegan was in sixth spot in 4.32.84. Ruby Stueven is in great shape at the moment too and her time of 4.49:50 doesn’t reflect how well she has been going in training. Still it’s a good start after a long wait for competitions.
Ronan Hyland was next up and he lined up for his first 1500m in almost two years. Ronan got out hard at the start and was among the lead runners for the first two laps. On the third lap he drifted a bit but stormed back into contention on the last lap running a 60 second 400m and finishing fourth in a time of 3.56.55. This is a ten second PB for Ronan.
Last to toe the line was Mark Milner. Again it’s been a long time since Mark has been in a race but he proved on Saturday that he’s lost none of his competitive edge. He was right with the leaders as they heard the bell and continued to push all the way to the line. He finished fourth in 1.49.89. Definitely augurs well for the races ahead!
Return to training for Senior Members
In line with current Government guidance, the relaxation of COVID restrictions allows a return to training for our Senior members. This is a very welcome and positive development for our members who have missed out on group training for what seems a very long time. We encourage all to get back training Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6.40pm to 8.30pm and cross country on Sunday mornings and let’s pick up from where we left off pre Covid. All members have received the Covid Return to Training directive via email and are asked to adhere to the club policies on same.
