Tullamore Harriers Club Report 6th April 2021
Harriers Juveniles take on 1000m Challenge
It’s been a tough few months for Tullamore Harriers Juveniles as they have continued to endure the level 5 lockdown. As the restrictions on meeting up on training have meant that club sessions cannot take place the young athletes have instead followed training schedules. In fields near their homes, down country lanes, alongside the canal and around local football pitches the young runners have done their best to maintain their fitness. They have endured wind, rain, snow and the dark winter nights and parents report they have done this enthusiastically.
In order to try and help the athletes through this time a talk by Sports Psychologist Canice Kennedy was organised in February and many of the young athletes have said they took a huge amount from what Canice said on the night.
Also to try and keep some solidarity in the training group this weekend in the lovely sunshine, many took part on a 1000m Time Trial. They did so in a competition against Blackrock AC, Dundrum South Dublin AC and Lucan Harriers. All those that ran had great times and it’s obvious that their hard work is paying off.
The government has now announced that training can restart on the 26th April so hopefully this will bring an end to the restrictions. So congrats to all those that took part in the Time Trial and we look forward to seeing everyone before the end of the month.
