European U20 Standard for Mooney
Laura Mooney along with the Providence College women’s indoor track team competed at the Mackal Field House in Kingston, Rhode Island on February 25. The tri-meet included Providence, Rhode Island and Northeastern.
The Friars took three of the  first four spots in the 3,000m, with Laura in third in 9.41:39. Her team mates Abbey Wheeler had finished first in 9:17:17 and Maria Coffin was fourth in 9:42:02.
The time is an eight second PB for Laura and is well inside the qualifying standard for the European Athletics U20 Track and Field Championships, which is set at 9.48:20. Athletics Ireland has not released the standards it expects athletes to achieve but Laura and her coach are confident that her mark should be sufficient. The European U20 Championships take place in Tallinn, Estonia in July.
Ava O’Connor last year ran the standard for the 1500m for these championships and with the lack of races available due to the Covid 19 crisis it is expected that the time should count for this year’s championships too. Ava and Laura’s outstanding performances follow on from Mark Milner and Danielle Donegan who qualified for European U20 Track and Field Championships and Cross Country respectively in 2019.
Mangan Runs 800m PB
Aaron Mangan as part of the Fort Hays State men’s track competed at the 2021 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend.
Aaron finished second and earned All-MIAA honors in the 800m final, running a personal-best time of 1:52.86. Aaron ran the race conservatively going into 7th place after the usual frantic start. He then waited until 250m to go before he made his move. Once he accelerated he passed most of the field and moved into second place. He held this position all the way to the finish line. Aaron’s time is a PB of half a second and augurs well for the outdoor track season. Aaron’s lap splits were 28, 28, 28, 27 showing that his discipline early on helped him get into the medals and run the PB time.
The Tullamore Harriers A.C is deeply shocked and saddened upon hearing of the untimely passing of Ferbane AC stalwart Marion Feehan.
Marion , daughter of the late Hugo Smith, was immersed in athletics all her life. She was the driving force behind  Ferbane A. C. , spotting and nurturing young athletes for many years.
A talented athlete in her own right, she also excelled as an administrator and organiser.
On my own behalf and on behalf of the committee and members of Tullamore Harriers, I wish to extend deepest sympathies to her husband Jude, her sons Max and Deema, her mother Lucy, sister Edel and brother Noel.
May she rest in peace.
