Tullamore Harriers Club Report 15th February 2021
Mooney runs 3000m PB
Laura Mooney ran her first indoor race of the year when the Providence College women’s indoor track team competed at the Mackal Field House in Kingston, R.I. on Thursday, Feb. 11.
Providence swept the top four spots in the 3,000-meter. Laura Mooney came home in second 9:49.94. This is a new PB for the Cappincur native and only a second outside the European U20 Championships qualifying standard.
The strength of the Providence team could be seen by the fact that Lilly Tuck from Sunderland, Canada crossed the line first at 9:30.10 while Maria Coffin of Annapolis, Maryland finished shortly behind Laura Mooney at 9:50.22 and Orla O’Connor from Waterford was the fourth Friar at 10:08.13.
Back on Track
Aaron Mangan and James Dunne competed at the Ichabod Invitational Saturday (Feb. 13) hosted by Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas yesterday. They ran in the A Heat of the 800m which had 52 entries.
Both lads acquitted themselves well finishing 8th and 9th respectively in 1.54:99 and 1.55:00. Due to the Covid 19 crisis neither have raced a lot in the last 18 months but it is clear that they are getting into decent shape.
We look forward to seeing them in action again in the weeks and months ahead.
Rev Cannon David Hutton Bury.
The Tullamore Harriers Athletic Club were deeply saddened on hearing of the passing of our good friend and neighbour, David Hutton.
David’s generosity in allowing the club the use of Charleville Estate for training and competition was endless. David’s willingness to move animals, fences and even gateposts allowed us to host competitions at club, county, provincial and National level. This level of support helped greatly to enhance Tullamore as a premier x- country venue. David’s generosity and support to other clubs and community groups is well known.
On my own behalf, and on behalf of the Tullamore Harriers committee and members, and indeed the wider athletic community I wish to extend deepest condolences to David’s wife Ines and daughters Caryl, Rachel and Sarah.
Our virtual spring league started last weekend. We had over 80 members split into 4 teams competing in a 1 mile time trial which was completed remotely and within there own 5k. Round 2 next weekend is a 3k time trial. Best of luck to everyone competing and stay safe and remember to follow all HSE guidelines regarding covid-19.
Results of round 1 to follow
