Tullamore Harriers Club Report 8th February 2021
WINTER TRAINING.
At this time of year with limited daylight hours, lots of our members and other athletes are running in the dark. Can we please remind all to be aware of the dangers of running in the dark. **The most dangerous thing about running in the dark is not what YOU do…..but what the people around you do**.
If you are not visible, you are not safe.
It is essential that you are visible to other people, particularly motorists. Respect that motorists must be able to see you in order to avoid you.
Please maximize reflective gear. A yellow jacket is not going to make you visible. You must have some reflective material on your top. Hi Vizability Clothing is exactly that —– you are visible to oncoming traffic and other road users.
Handheld flash lights or headlamps have dual purpose – they light up your way and also alert the other road users.
Avoid using earphones . Your concentration may be reduced if using earphones.
Run against the traffic – you can see what the motorist is doing .
Don’t leave it too late to light up. Safe running everyone.
