Tullamore Harriers Report 10th February 2020

AAI Indoor Games

Katelyn Farrelly, our U18 multi-eventer, competed in both the long jump and the 60m sprint in the AAI Indoor Games, on Sunday 09th February, against a high quality field of senior athletes. Starting with the long jump, Katelyn didn’t perform to her usual standard and finished 9th with a best of 518cm. An hour later she took a good positive from her day with a 7.90 secs in the 60m. Well done Katelyn on super efforts in training and competition and keep up the great work.

Milers and Metric Milers

A number of Harriers Juveniles and young Seniors tacked mile and 1500m races at the AAI Indoor Games. Ava O’Connor led the charge on the women’s side where she put it up to the Senior field when she finished fourth in a new PB of 4.26. Not far behind was Nadine Donegan who took six seconds off her PB to cross the line in 4.32.  Minutes later Mark Milner lined up in his first 1500m race in five years and he ran a very creditable 3.52. Meanwhile Aaron Mangan raced a mile in Missouri and came 8th in 4.21. Again like Mark it was not his usual distance so he too was just getting experience in the race.  Matthew Molloy to be different raced a 3000m and performed well in tough race and finished with a new PB of 9.10. Well done to all.

Irish Mountain Running Association League

Well done to Dearbhail Cuddy who came 3rd in the Irish Mountain Running Association League held in Castlecomer on Sunday 02nd February.

National Master and Intermediate Cross Country Championships

The beautiful Avondale Estate in Rathdrum Co Wicklow was the venue for the finale of the 2019/2020 cross country championships where the National Intermediate and Masters Cross Country Championships was run off on Saturday 08th February. The course was ideal for cross country running with a testing hilly circuit in the shelter of high trees. The master ladies O35 team was off first and Tara McKinney led the charge for Tullamore Harriers in the 4000m race. The race was won by Finn Valley’s Teresa Doherty who was chased by a huge field of 200 athletes. The Tullamore ladies finished 13th team with Tara (46th), Dympna Fox (71st), Rita Daly (94th), Hilary Duncan (154th) and Martina Conlon (168th).

The Master men were next and here too a huge entry of 258 men lined out for their 7000m race. Padraig Berry had a great run finishing in 36th place with Liam Byrne (144th), Alan Heffernan (177th), Alan Mitchell (210th), Peter Bennett (220th) and Sean Reynolds (226th) and Dave Dunican (223rd) in pursuit. The men were 20th club overall in a very competitive race. Unfortunately Leslie Buckley pulled up with an injury mid race.

Emily Grennan was our only athlete in the Intermediate Ladies 5000m competition. Emily sealed an excellent cross country season with an 8th place finish.

Despite not taking home any medals each runner served their club really well in the All Irelands yesterday and well done to each of you.
