Tullamore Harriers triumphant in the Battle of Clontarf!
The club had a great representation in the Leinster 10 Mile Road Race Championships on Bank Holiday Monday 22nd April at the Battle of Clontarf 10 miler. Hosted by Raheny Shamrocks in St Anne’s Park, the race had over 400 finishers on a glorious Easter Monday. First man for Tullamore Harriers was Mick O’Brien in 8th place in 58.00 and first lady and 15th lady overall was Rita Daly in 1:13:05. Great running by all wearing the blue and white and well done on the collection of individual and team medals.

Forest Run 8k Emo – St Michael’s AC
Tullamore Harriers’ Paul Mitchell and Sinead Rigney won the 8k Emo Forest run on Friday last, 19th April. The popular race was hosted by Michael’s AC in the beautiful surrounds of Emo Estate, Co Laois. Paul posted 27.54 for the 8k taking the early lead from Portlaoise AC athlete Tony O’Reilly. Jody O’Reilly (32;08) was next for Tullamore in 5th place, followed by Alan Heffernan (8th) 32:54, Sinead Rigney (1st lady) 33;48. Fionnan Minnock (19th) 34:13, Peter Bennett (31st)36:07 and Sean Reynolds (33rd) 36:09. Peter had raced twice on the same day so fair dues! Well done to all and to Micheal’s AC.
Laois Offaly ETB 10k/5k
David Murray was winner in another off road event on Good Friday. He was first man home in the LOETB 10k in MountLucas Wind Farm. David was a clear winner in 35:24. 2nd place went to Richie Faulkiner who also had a great run – 38:53. Leslie Buckley posted 42:21 and Rita Daly was 2nd Lady finisher in 45:12. In the 5k race, Peter Bennett was 3rd overall in 20:00. Patricia Rusk 25:53 and Josie Lalor 30:45.
Lynn Mooney was winner in the Drumcullen 5k fun run on Sunday 14th April in a time of 20.31. Well done Lynn.
Dermot Smith picked up his Abbott World Master medal on Monday 15th April after finishing marathon no 6 of the series in Boston, USA. What an achievement to complete 6 major marathons in the world!
The other major marathons that Dermot finished are : Tokyo, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York. Huge congrats Dermot.
Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon 2019
Registration is now opens for the 2019 Tullamore Harriers Quinlan Cup Half Marathon. The 7th annual event will take place on Saturday 31st August 2019. Last year we sold out early and unfortunately many were disappointed they didn’t make the cut off of 1000 entries. Again this year we will cap the entries at 1000 so please register to secure your place. The relay race will go ahead again this year. The Leinster and Offaly Half Marathon Championships will be incorporated into this year’s race. Every year we get huge positive feedback from participants and spectators alike who praise the friendly atmosphere and quality of the Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon. The club also offers its condolences to the families of: John Godley, Ballymacelligot, Co. Kerry, father of Juvenile coach Tom Godley; and Ellen (Nellie) Mooney, Geashill; grandmother of Laura Mooney, Juvenile member & her brother Barry, former member; who passed away recently. May they both rest in peace.
