Leinster Senior Cross Country
The going was tough in Dunboyne last Sunday at the Leinster Senior Cross Country and Celtic Games; the flat course was very mucky in parts making for heavy underfoot conditions.  The womens field, though smaller than in previous years, was supplemented by the Celtic U23 contestants representing Scotland, Ireland and Ulster.  The women’s race was run over 5000m and the Tullamore team of Michelle Mullaney, Nita McLoughlin, Tara McKinney, Bridget Fox, Mary Daly and Martina Conlon finished together to earn silver medals in the club competition.  Edenderry’s Caroline Donnellan, who finished 17th in 23.05, led the Offaly county team to third place in the county race.
The men’s team of Padraig Berry, John Harkin, Christy Donegan, Dave Fox, Eddie Garry, Richie Galvin, Darren Butler, Liam Byrne and Rory Farrell battled hard over 10,000m – a gruelling distance for cross country – earning bronze county medals for their efforts. They were eight overall in the club competition.
