OLIVER PLUNKETT 5K ROAD RACE.
Keith Gorry and Jim Langan competed in the recent Oliver Plunkett, 5k road race in Mullingar .Despite a slightly longer distance than advertised, Jim was the winner of the o65 age category and crossed the line in a time of 25.05, while Keith completed in a time of 18.41.
On Saturday last, John Todd was invited to the Metro- St Brigid’s annual closed handicap cross country race. The 6 mile race was run in the playing fields in Porterstown followed by prize giving at the home of Senator Eamon Coghlan. John was presented with his prize, 2nd veteran by Minister Leo Vadradkar. John’s finishing time was 39.09 .
On Sunday 23rd of December, Tullamore Harriers members oversee the annual Goal Collection. Members are asked to rally round at the various collection points during this day to help this deserving cause. Jim Langan competed in the Newmarket 5k race on December 23rd , winning first over 70 age group prize with a time of 24.24
FIELDS OF ATHENRY 10K
Out of a field of almost 1000 athletes , Declan Fahy finished 10th overall in the fields of Athenry 10k race on St. Stephen’s Day with a time of 33.25.
KILEACANTY TURKEY RUN
Michelle Mullaney headed west to compete in the Kileacanty 8k race on December 26th. Michelle was 2nd lady home in a time of 32.54.
ARDAGH 5K AND 16K CHALLENGE.
On December 29th , three of our members competed in the 16k race in Ardagh, Co Longford. Dave Fox was 4th overall with a time of 1.01.04, followed by Mike Murphy in 5th place in 1.01.32 and Keith Gorry(10th) 1.04.40. Jason Donegan was our only contender in the 5k event and was overall winner posting a time of 17.56.
CULLOHILL 5K CHRISTMAS CRACKER
Brendan Abbott competed in the Cullohill 5k road race hosted by Ballyroan/Abbeyleix Athletic club on December 30th. Brendan crossed the line in 18.42 on what was reported a most testing course. Brendan was pleased to beat his arch rival PJ Carroll so has great plans for 2013!
KILBEGGAN 4 MILE FUN RUN/WALK
On St Stephens’ Day the best representation of the club was in the town of Kilbeggan, where 12 of our athletes lined up for the post Christmas 4 mile race. First man and woman titles went to the club to Catch Grennan and Pauline Curley respectively, and all other members also featured well up on the results sheet.
Overall times. Catch Grennan(1st) 20.22 ,Mark Serviss,(2nd) 20.38, Jason Donegan (4th) 20.43, John Harkin(5th) 21.00. BALLINAGAR 5K FUN RUN/WALK
On Stephen’s Day , the Ballinagar 5k fun run/walk was well supported by our members with approximately 12 competing the 5000m race. (Results later)
AWARE 10K RACE
On Saturday 8th of December, 5 Tullamore Harriers athletes headed to the Phoenix Park, Dublin to compete in the Aware 10k road race. Out of a field of over 1000, our first athlete home was Andy o’Grady (68th) in a fine time of 41.43 followed by John Leahy (100th), in 43.35. Damien Minnock crossed the line in 45.03 with Ger Keyes (243rd) in 46.48 and Lavinia Leahy (436th) in 51.38.
John Todd took part in the recent BHAA cross country race n Marley Park, Dublin. He clocked 19.22 for the 5k race and was 1st o/60 for his efforts.
